Eagle Creek No Matter What™ Rolling Duffel XL Review for Scuba Travel!
Since I am traveling a lot with heavy gear (really heavy gear) I wanted to write this review about these amazing bags from Eagle Creek…
I have owned these bags for approximately 2-3 years after owning many major brand scuba diving travel bags. I don’t want to name brands but I have been using 3-4 different major name brands and have been disappointed with their quality as most of them had breaking parts and the quality was just too bad for the price tag they had.
It’s not just about the quality, in today’s world air travel luggage restrictions have become really strict and carrying scuba gear more expensive…I am traveling always with approximately 80KG of luggage, mainly underwater photography gear, cameras, lenses, housing, strobes, technical cave diving gear which adds up and is really heavy in the end…
Any major scuba brand travel bag weighs approximately 3-5KG empty, whereas the Eagle Creek weighs only 1.9KG. Traveling with 2 bags makes it already a saving of 2-6KG, depending on destination and airline that can be a huge saving.
I have been traveling with my Eagle Creek’s all over the world, cave diving in Mexico, live-aboard trips in Egypt and all over Asia on long term travels with all my equipment and I have to say, these bags are holding up to any conditions and the quality/durability is par to none…
Being rolling duffel bags, there are some things which needs to be considered when buying them for scuba travel…
Protection wise I have bought foam sheets (1m x 1m) on ebay and just lay them out in the bag and since today I have not had any damaged item inside of them…On really long haul flights I do as well get them wrapped at the airport and no issues so far…
Being duffel bags, another point to consider is when packing, best is to put your fins on the bottom so they don’t fold easily when rolling them…That gives them stability and without folding and rolling them is really easy…
They have a capacity of 128L and are enough for a recreational scuba diver to pack in all your gear plus personal items.
Each of my bags weigh around 28-29KG and so far there is no real sign of wear on them, the outer shell is waterproof and very sturdy, very strong stitching, good quality hard plastic around the rollers and no cracks yet…
I am amazed by this quality and really do recommend these bags for scuba divers of all levels, doesn’t matter with how much gear you have to travel, they do a great job…
Please see below some photos of my bags and their condition after nearly 3 years of heavy use, still like new…

I am not in any way affiliated with Eagle Creek and this is a complete impartial review without any benefits. I just want that scuba divers know that there is an alternative to other major scuba travel bags with many benefits which are very nice to have for traveling scuba divers.
If you have any questions regarding these bags, please feel free to contact me.
do the zippers rust?
Not at all after years of usage, just wash them and dry in an airy space time to time or after contact with salt water…
thank you for taking the time to respond 🙂
